Play and Learning

At Wallsend Day┬áNursery we work using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to provide a high standard of learning and development for children aged from birth to five years. Beyond this our nursery –

  • Celebrates the skills and achievements of children through planned and spontaneous activities and play.
  • Encourages children to be Healthy, Strong, Skilful Communicators and Competent Learners.
  • Allows children to develop their imagination and make their own choices through self-initiated activities and become life-long learners in the process.
  • Ensures that learning opportunities are provided to allow children to be supported through their play.
  • Provide a positive and nurturing environment with staff following excellent working practices.
  • Acknowledge our children’s ideas and experiences and builds on these to further stimulate them in preparation for school and all areas of later life.

Within the EYFS framework children experience the following learning areas:

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication & Language

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts & Design

All of our children’s development is recorded and analysed on a tracker to provide an individual pathway for future learning.
